Seniorpalooza!

Ethos, an organization dedicated to promoting independence, dignity and well being among the elderly, held its 3rd annual Seniorpalooza event in Hyde Park this May in recognition of Elder Americans month.

Seniorpalooza was a month long series of lectures, demonstrations, interactive events and fun activities targeted to local seniors, to keep them connected to their communities while raising visibility and support for seniors among local businesses and organizations. This year Ethos targeted the Hyde Park neighborhood. One of the true highlights of the month was the "Senior Prom" hosted by The Hyde Park Community Center. Over 250 seniors attended and fun was had by everyone. One staff person said "a couple of people could really cut a rug out there!" Other events and activities were held for Hyde Park seniors including discussions at the Hyde Park library on a variety of topics, a spaghetti lunch at the Eagles lodge with State Senator Marian Walsh and exercise and well being classes hosted by the YMCA.

Ethos was founded in 1972 by a group of motivated southwest Boston activists after then Governor Frank Sargent issued a call for initiatives to help elders age "in place." Since then the agency has grown and now provides a multitude of services including; homecare, caregiver support, ombudsman, delivered meals and nutrition, elders in crisis, volunteer services, and money management services to elders throughout Boston.
